This excellent entry into the avant garde guitar canon is this Horsehair Everywhere member’s follow up to his solo debut on Kimberly Dawn last year. Playing a “prepared” telecaster, often with a bow, Sexton lays down sheets of fuzz and static that could be field recordings from a factory, or the hum of airship engines, until he adds characteristic repetitions of buried melodies and open space, which to me move this piece into the composer’s realm. Could be the soundtrack to a lost Tarkovsky movie. Instead many recordings from this release serve as the score to Geoffrey’s recently completed feature length abstract film about abandoned spaces “Classroom Citizens” which is available from his own DVD label Univers/Elementum. You may also recognize Geoffrey’s work as the director of music videos for Pink Priest and Horsehair Everywhere. Edition of 40, artwork designed by G. Sexton & L. Noble.
